What does Microsoft and Thomas Edison have in common?

Both are fans of EULAs, apparently.

Case in point: the packaging of an Edison wax cylinder.

No, I don't know what a "wax cylinder" is either.

A wax cylinder is the precursor of the phonograph record--the first (commercial) medium for storing and reproducing sound, developed near the end of the 19th century.

Incidentally, wikipedia says the first sale doctrine was recognized by our Supreme Court in 1908 (Bobbs-Merrill Co. v. Straus), so the resale limitation on this wax cylinder package was probably legal. Haven't we come a long way!
